Full Meaning of Esmaa
Esmaa is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means exalted, high, great. It is the name of the daughter of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, the closest companion of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him and his companions. It is derived from the S-M-A root (it became exalted, it became high, he/she named something) which is used in the Quran in a lot of places and the root for words like Samaa’ (sky) and Ism (name).
‘Zakariyya, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be Yahya. We have not given such a name to anyone before.’ (Quran 19:7)
Allah – there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names. (Quran 20:8)
The Prophet said, “My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” (Quran 21:4)
There are two versions of Esmaa, both of which have the same meaning. One of them has a pause at the end: Esmaaa’, the other is free at the end without a pause: Esmaaa. It is up to you whichever pronunciation you choose. Since most people don’t know how to pronounce Arabic pauses (known as hamzah), it might be best to choose the simpler name of Esmaa over Esmaaa’.
