Meaning of Irtiqa
Irtiqa is an indirect Quranic name that’s used mostly for both girls and boys, more common for girls. It means going higher, ascension , to become better, to evolve, to mature. It is derived from the R-Q-A root which is used in a number of places in the Quran and is the root for Ruqayya (name of Prophet Muhammad’s daughter who was also wife of Uthman ibn Affan, peace and blessings of Allah upon the Prophet and his family and companions)
And they say, “We will not believe you until you break open for us from the ground a spring. Or [until] you have a garden of palm tress and grapes and make rivers gush forth within them in force [and abundance]. Or you make the heaven fall upon us in fragments as you have claimed or you bring Allah and the angels before [us]. Or (show us) that you have a well adorned house of your own, or climb into the sky. We shall never believe that you have climbed into the sky until you bring us a book that we can read.” Say, “All glory belongs to my Lord. Am I more than a mortal Messenger?”
Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! [But] there it is: any and all human beings, however [strongly] leagued together, are bound to suffer defeat [whenever they refuse to accept the truth]. (Quran 38:10-11)
