Ahed

A Quranic Name for Boys

Ahed is variant of Ahad and has the exact same meaning and pronunciation (see below for full meaning). You can use either Ahed or Ahad, both are correct and acceptable. If you like this variant more and you'd like to pronounce it the way it is spelled (different than the original name), this is perfectly acceptable. For more details please see the main entry at: Ahad.

Full Meaning of Ahed

Ahed is a direct Quranic name for boys that means “one”, “unique”, “matchless”. One of the names of Allah, subhanahu wa taala, is al-Ahed, and this name with the al- in front of it should not be used as a name because it is specific to Allah. But when you remove the al-, that is when you use Ahed by itself, it becomes a general and acceptable name to use. Ahed is used in about 80 places in the Quran.

They said: “O thou great one! Behold, he has a father, a very old man: detain, therefore, one of us in his stead. Verily, we see that thou art a doer of good!” (Quran 12:78)

Your Lord has commanded that you should worship none but Him, and show kindness to your parents. If one or both of them attain old age with you, say no word of contempt to them and do not rebuke them, but always speak gently to them. (Quran 17:23)
