Aswad is an Arabic name for boys that means “black” (the color). It is the name of a number of the Sahaba (companions of the Prophet PBUH), such as Aswad bin Abs and Aswad bin Awf. Aswad is pronounced as [(U)p + (S)weet] + [(W)ant + r(U)n + (D)ay]. It may also be spelled as Uswad or Uswadd.
