The Nusayri sect is named as such due to the fact that its spiritual leader is Muhammad bin Nusayr. Nusayri simply means “related to Nusayr”. The word Nusayr does not have a bad meaning and is not related to the sect. Nusayr is an Arabic word that means “little helper”, “little assistant”, “little guardian”, it is the diminutive form of the name Naseer.
Nusair is an indirect Quranic name as its root, N-SAAD-R, is used in the Quran. It is an acceptable name for Muslims since it doesn’t have a bad meaning.
