in reply to: Meaning of Taaleia #120398

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

Arabic names can be spelled in any way the parents desire. For example the name Muhammad is written in a dozen or so different ways, and this does not change the meaning. Therefore you can spell Taaliah however you wish, for example Taliah, Talya, Taliyah, Talea, Taleia, etc.

The same applies to Leia/Liya, you may spell it the way you like.

    Wassalam

Sayyidat-al-Nisa and Manha are both acceptable. Manha does not mean “gift from Allah”, Minha means that. For Manha’s meaning please type it in the search box.

Aqiqah is considered a sunnah (not an obligation) by many scholars, and this only applies to first names when first naming a baby. Aqiqah is not done when changing a name, according to this fatwa by Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Nasir al-Baraak.

The one meaning “gift”, “bestowal” is written as نَيْلَا, while the one meaning “obtainer” (though the more common meaning “gracious”, “charitable”) is written as نائلة. These are two different names from the same root. As for the correct pronunciations, type Nayla and Naylaa in the search box and read their respective articles.

in reply to: izzah as a Muslim name #120337

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

Izzah means “greatness”, “majesty”. It is a good meaning and can be used as a name. All names in Islam are acceptable unless there is a clear and valid proof that it is forbidden, and there is no such proof for the name Izzah. Azeez is a name from the same root and is quite common among Muslims.

    in reply to: inaya #120336

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

Both Inaya and Anaya are linguistically correct and acceptable names. Inaya is the more common and is the one found in most dictionaries.

in reply to: meaning of the name #120334

    Alaikumassalam,

Umme means “mother of”, unfortunately we have no information on Ahana.

in reply to: can you pls help #120333

“Direct” means the name is seen in the Quran, while indirect means the name itself is not in the Quran, but its “root” is in the Quran.

For example Ahmad is in the Quran, while its feminine form Hamdaa is not. Hamdaa is derived from Ahmad. Ahmad is a direct Quranic name, while Hamdaa is indirect.

in reply to: Shahir haziq #120331

    Alaikumassalam,

The combination is acceptable. It doesn’t create a new meaning, each name keeps its own meaning, which can be looked up on our site.

in reply to: Meanings of Maheera for Girls #120329

Mah is a Persian word meaning “moon”, Mahee means “moon-like” and “ra” means “road”, “way”, “conduct”, “behavior”. Thus the name can be considered to mean “one whose conduct is like the moon”. Since the moon is generally used to connote beauty, the ultimate meaning of the name is “beautiful”.

However, note that Mahee also means “fish”. To avoid the confusion, the fish meaning would be removed if the name is turned into Maheenra or Meheera, which keep the same meaning as Maheera but lose the “fish” meaning.

Also note that this name is not used by Persians, and it is most likely a modification of the Persian name Mahru (“moon-faced”) or a related name.

It is acceptable for Muslims since it has a good meaning.

Those are good names and insha’Allah you can use them. There are also Tayyib and Salih (“good”, “wholesome”) and Saalim, which comes from the same root as Saleem and means (“whole”, “without flaw”).

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

Mirzia is another spelling of Marziyyah, written as مرضية in Arabic.

Some sources mention Marziyyah as one of the titles of Fatima.

in reply to: Muhammad Azmeer Azam #120324

    It is insha’Allah.

in reply to: can I keep #120323

That sounds like complete nonsense. There is no concept of a name’s “heaviness” in Islam and the scholars have no issue with using the names of angels.

in reply to: Shahid Haziq #120186

    Assalamu alaikum,

Shahid means “witness” and Haziq means “skilled” (etc.), therefore you can consider the meaning to be “skilled witness” if you will.
