in reply to: Which name to choose for my new born boy #114144

    Assalamu Alaikum,

It may be best to seek the help of the baby’s family and relatives to see which one they prefer. I personally prefer Yahya since it is the name of a prophet, but your relatives may prefer the other name.

For more details on Rumaisa/Rumaisah please see this page: Rumaisah. We can no longer find any sources for the meaning of “good” or “strong”, for this reason the official meaning now is “wind that scatters”.

As for the Sahabiyyah name you mentioned, it is a different name which you can read about here: Rumaisaa

    in reply to: Rumaisa #114141

We also found new information on the the name Rumaisaa (with a saad), which is also the possible name of a Sahabiyyah. For more information see: RUmaisaa

We have now updated the entry for Rumaisah. You can see it here: Rumaisah

    in reply to: Rumaisa #114133

Thanks for the detailed reply. Our previous statement on Rumaisah meaning “friend” or “strong” is one year old and it is unclear where it came from. It may or may not be true, we cannot find a source for it.

The new, authentic meaning of this name (رُمَيْسَة), mentioned in the Sultan Qaboos Encyclopedia, is “wind that scatters dust and buries footprints and other effects.”

As for Rumaisaa with a saad, it is the name of a star.

As for deriving Rumaisah رُمَيْسة from the root رمس (“to speak quietly”, “to cover”, “to keep something secret”), it would receive the meaning of “a single small instance of rams“, thus meaning “a single instance of speaking quietly”, “a covering up of something”, “a single instance of keeping something secret and not revealing it”.

As for Sahabiyyah names, we found two named Rumaithah (رُمَيْثَة): Rumaithah bint Amr bin Hashim and Rumaithah bint Hakeem. As for Rumaisah with a seen or saad, we couldn’t any Sahabiyaat named such.

in reply to: Second name with Afnan #113683

Kashif means “discoverer”, “uncoverer”. It is an acceptable name, but we haven’t heard of a door of Jannah with such a name. Afnan Zayyan is acceptable.

Rahman shouldn’t be kept as a first name since it means “God”. Ashir is an acceptable name. As for Daiyaan, I am not sure what name this is, please provide another spelling.

in reply to: Binyamin – > Yusuf (AS) brother #113680

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

Binyamin, which is written as Benjamin in English, is a Hebrew name and there are multiple opinions on its mean, such as “son of my days”, “son of the south”, “son of the right side” and “spirit man”. These are acceptable meanings, therefore Binyamin and Benjamin are acceptable names for a Muslim child.

Mahveen is a Persian name from the words Mah (“moon”) and veen (“to see”), creating the meaning of “one who looks like the moon when you look at her”, thus meaning “extremely beautiful”.

It is a good name and you can use it insha’Allah.

Aarib means “winner” as explained on our site. It is not a direct Quranic name therefore it is not mentioned anywhere in the Quran, its root only is mentioned. Please type it in the search box for more information. Aarib Zeeshan is an acceptable name.

in reply to: Aadil Ihsan #113664

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

There is no problem with the name Aadil Ihsan. There is no problem with using verbs as names. Additionally, Ihsan is not a verb, it is a noun that refers to a concept, similar to Ikhlas and Iman.

in reply to: Name in Arabic #112271

    Hello,

Arabic does not have the “g” sound in Abigail, therefore it is written as آبِيجِيْل (Abijail) or آبِيغَيْل (Abighail).

As for Zaira, if by it you mean the Arabic name that means “visitor”, then it is written as زَائِرَة.

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

This is a question that you can answer yourself; please go through the lists of names on our site and find similar names that you like. This is what we would have to do to answer you, but since it is a time-consuming task and since our extra expertise is of no help here, we leave it to you and our readers to provide you with suggestions.

in reply to: IS "zunairah Rahman" a good name? #112267

    Assalamu alaikum,

Rahman is considered a synonym of Allah, thus your own name Saifur Rahman means “sword of God”. But there is no interaction between the two names Zunairah Rahman, therefore it is like naming her “Zunairah God”. If Rahman is a family name then it is acceptable, but if it is part of the girl’s own name, it may not be. Please ask a knowledgeable scholar for a definite answer.
