Meaning of Abda (Abduh)
Abda or Abduh is an ancient Arabic name for boys (rarely for girls too), and an indirect Quranic name, that means “female slave”, “a female slave born into slavery”1. Despite its feminine meaning, it was generally given to boys. It was common in pre-Islamic times to give boys unflattering or feminine names in order to protect them from the evil eye.
Abda is the feminine form of the name Abd and is derived from the Quranic root ʿ-B-D.
