I don’t understand where the Zaal at the end comes from? When its a dhaal which gives a heavy DTH sound and definitely not a Z sound مُعَاذ so the name is Mu’adh and not Muaz.

I am considering this name for my child in honor of the physician who was killed in Allepo one year ago. His story touches me so and I admire his courage.
I’m an American and don’t know much about Urdu. Is this a common name? Are there other forms of the name more often used?
Thank you.

I am American.. My name is Muaz. In English it is an hyphen over the a. Mu (the wizard of “oz”) az. When I was older, I learned that the Arabs pronounced it differently. Mu ah th with an emphasis on th sound. I was always told my name meant someone who likes to teach.
