Meaning of Aazib
Aazib (also spelled Azeb) is an indirect Quranic name for boys that means “alone”, “solitary”, “bachelor” (a man having no wife)1, “distant”2, as in “a distant pasture”3and also “absent”, “concealed”4. Aazib is derived from the Quranic ʿ-Z-B (ع ز ب) root in the sense of something being out of the reach of one’s power or knowledge.
وَمَا تَكُونُ فِي شَأْنٍ وَمَا تَتْلُو مِنْهُ مِنْ قُرْآَنٍ وَلَا تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ إِلَّا كُنَّا عَلَيْكُمْ شُهُودًا إِذْ تُفِيضُونَ فِيهِ وَمَا يَعْزُبُ عَنْ رَبِّكَ مِنْ مِثْقَالِ ذَرَّةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَلَا أَصْغَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَلَا أَكْبَرَ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِينٍ
And you are not engaged in any affair, nor do you recite from it any portion of the Quran, nor do you perform any deed, except that We are witnesses over you when you proceed with it. And there does not escape your Lord even the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor anything smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear record. (Quran 10:61)
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَأْتِينَا السَّاعَةُ قُلْ بَلَى وَرَبِّي لَتَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْزُبُ عَنْهُ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَلَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا أَصْغَرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَلَا أَكْبَرُ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِينٍ
And those who disbelieved said: “The Hour will not come to us.” Say: “Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you—the Knower of the unseen, from whom does not escape the weight of an atom in the heavens or in the earth, nor anything smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear record.” (Quran 34:3)
