Beautiful and Wholesome Baby Names for Muslims
Below is the complete listing of all baby names on QuranicNames.com, which includes both Quranic and non-Quranic names, and Arabic, Persian and Urdu names (and some from other languages as well). Note that by a Muslim baby name we mean any name used by or suitable for Muslims. We do not retrict ourselves to only baby names associated with Islam or Islamic history, as our mission, apart from offering the greatest collection of Quranic names, is to provide the world's Muslims with a comprehensive collection of beautiful names suitable for Muslims regardless of their origin.
If you're looking for specific types of baby names, such as Quranic names, names that sound like "Aya", or 4-letter names, use the dropdown below to select your choices.
How to Use
The dropdown helps you filter the names on our website to narrow down the names so that you only see the ones you are interested in based on filters that you choose. The filters are cumulative — each one you select will narrow down the results further. So choosing "is for girls" will only display girl names, but if you add "starts with... a", then you will only see names that are both girl names and start with "a".
Use the dropdown to create the exact criteria to find the kind of name you are interested in. As an example, if you're interested in Quranic girl names that contain "ra" (such as Amira), choose these filters:
- Filter 1: "is for girls"
- Filter 2: "is Quranic..."
- Filter 3: "contains..." (then enter "ra" in the dialog)
The order in which you choose one filter then another does not matter.
Changing and Removing Filters
In the filter sentence ("I'm looking for a name that..."), each filter has an "x" at the end. Pressing this "x" will remove the filter as if you hadn't chosen it to begin with. While pressing the pen button will open the dialog for that filter so that you can change the value(s) you originally entered.
"Similar to" versus "Contains"
If you're interested in names that are spelled exactly in a certain way, use "contains", although since most of these names do not have one official spelling, "contains" will not necessary match your intention. It may often be better if you use "is similar to" instead, even if you are only looking for names that contain, say, "ay", because "is similar to" will find names that contain "ai" as well, thus likely getting you more names that you're interested in.
Quranic versus Directly Quranic
Quranic names are names that are either in the Quranic text, or whose grammatical root is used in the Quran. "Direct" Quranic names are only those that are in the Quranic text, and this is what is commonly meant when a name is described as "Quranic". However, our website contains both kinds. If you are only looking for names like Yusuf or Maryam that are mentioned letter-for-letter in the Quran, choose "is directly in the Quran". For more details, and why we include both kinds of Quranic names, please see our article On Quranic Roots.
Name Similarity
Our "similar names" filter uses a sophisticated algorithm to find names that seem and feel similar to the one you provide. Calculating name similarity is not an exact science. We hope this filter will help you find names that are relevant and interesting, but we do not claim that these "similar" names are pronounced the same way or have some deeper relationship, therefore be sure to check out the article for each name that interests you for its details.
