Meaning of Owais
Owais is an ancient Arabic name that means “little wolf”, it comes from Aws, which means “wolf”. Aws was the name of one of the main Arab tribes of the city of Madinah, the other being Khazraj.
Owais is not a Quranic name, but since it doesn’t have a bad meaning, and since three of the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, had this name, it is an acceptable name for a Muslim baby. The full names of the three companions are: Owais al-Qarni, Owais bin as-Samit and Owais bin Aamir.
Owais is pronounced [(OO)ps or (U)zbekistan] + [(WAY) + (S)weet], with emphasis on the second syllable. It is written as أُوَيْس in Arabic and can also be written as Uwais, Ouways, Ouwais, Oweis, Uweiss, Uweyss, Uwess in English.

The person who asked the difference between Aws and Uwais. Aws means wolf (which you know), and there is a term which is called ‘tasgheer,’ and this is the scale on which Uwais is. The normal word is faa, eyn saakin, and noon, then the scale of tasgheer is faa (pesh), eyn, yaa saakin, laam. Which is pronounced fuayl. The meaning that tasgheer words hold is of ‘small size,’ ‘less respect,’ or ‘beloved.’ For example, ibn means child, bunayy means beloved child (this seems like it doesnt follow the rule but it does with exceptions because it has huroof e illat). Also, qufl means lock and qufayl means small lock. So like that. Hope this helped.
