Waqi is an Arabic name for boys that means “protector”. It is derived from the W-Q-Y root which is used in the Quran, therefore it is an indirect Quranic name. It is pronounced [(WA)nt] + [Ira(Q) + s(EE)].

We do not recommend using this name if you live in the West due to its similarity to the English word “wacky” which doesn’t have a good meaning.

As someone else has already answered this question (well done to the bro/sis who did), i’d like to mention that i know at least one person named Waqi and everyone seems to like his name in the UK.
