Surat is the Turkish variant of the Arabic name Surah which means "highness of status", "nobleness", "rank". It also means "chapter of the Quran".

Mumtahina is the name of one of the chapters of the Quran and means "one who is tested", "one who is about to be tested". It refers to the women who immigrated from Mecca to Medina and Allah asked the prophet to test them to see if they were truly believers, and if so, the Muslims we required to keep them and support them instead of asking them to go back to Mecca.
