Assalaamu’alaykum warahmatullaahi wabarakatuhu, is it permissible to give the name Furqaan to a baby boy?

Answer

This is an official answer by QuranicNames.com Staff

Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,

Furqaan is a permissible name. Using this name is disliked (makrooh) by some scholars, such as Ibn al-Qayyim, because it is the name of a chapter of the Quran and it is also one of the names of the Quran itself. Therefore it is best to avoid this name, but if someone has been named Furqaan, there is no need to change it and it is best to keep it since it does not have a bad meaning and since changing a person's name will create difficulties for the person and his/her family.
