Asalamualaikum, Please Suggest If "Iraj"and "Alisha / Alesha"can be used as female muslim girl names ? Please also advise if they are islamic / Quranic. As per several websites, IRAJ means Flower. Alisha / Alesha as per some websites means "protected by God" while some say , it means "Noble / kind". Thank you.
Answer
Iraj [pronounced as (EE)l + (RU)n + (J)ump] is an ancient Farsi name (used for boys only in Iran, and used for girls in Desi culture) mentioned in the Shahnameh of of the poet Firdausi. The meaning of this name isn't simple since it is an ancient name, but it is said that it means free, gentle, or noble. Since it has a good meaning Muslims cn use it.
Alisha is not an Arabic or Quranic name. Alisha means noble and protected by God, it is a variant of Alicia and comes from Germanic roots. Since it has a good meaning Muslims can use it.

I know the name Alisha has different origins; not necessarily from ‘Alicia’. Some south Asians have the name with a different meaning (from their own language), even cultures where multiple characters can form this name such as Chinese or Japanese. Could it be possible this name could be derived also from Arabic? If it does mean “noble” and the like, then could not the name be derived from the Arabic name Ali, which means “high, noble”.
The name Alisha has ‘Ali’ as a participle and it shares the same or similar meaning, even if it may not be from a Quranic root.
