Huzaifah is an ancient Arabic name for boys that is the diminutive/affectionate form of Ḥadhfah, which refers to a breed of sheep1 or goat from Yemen, or to young black lambs, or to young sheep or goats in general (lambs and kids), and to gazelles.23 It also refers to a type of bird. Due to the fact that it is a pre-Islamic Arabic name, there is no single opinion on its true, original meaning. Huzaifah is the name of many of the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his companions, most famous among whom is Huzaifah bin al-Yaman, the Prophet’s secret keeper.
