My daughters name is Erha but recently one of my friends told me she got a fatwa from a mufti to saying we can not name Erha because it means chakki* flour. Please guide accordingly.

That’s a common misconception about names unfortunately. The true meaning of a name is the one that is determined by the language that you chose the name from. So as stated, in Arabic this name means “calm and serene”. If it has a negative meaning in another language, that is irrelevant; for most Islamic names you can probably find a language in which a name has a bad meaning. But we do not care because we take the names from Arabic and that is what determines the genuine meaning *for us*.
So Erha is an acceptable name if you chose it from Arabic with the meaning of “calm and serene”, in other words if you chose it with the language and meaning that is on our website. If others find a negative meaning for this name: anyone can find a negative meaning for most names if they look into other languages. If others give “Erha” a negative meaning, that is their problem; you chose the name with the authentic Arabic meaning of “calm and serene”. It is similar to someone finding a negative meaning for “Ahmad” in a non-Arabic language; you know that authentic sources give this name a good meaning in Arabic, and you chose the name from the Arabic language, not from that irrelevant language, so you can happily reject their opinion and continue to use the name.
