Abrahah

A Non-Quranic Name for Boys

Short meaning of Abrahah
  • "Father of a multitude". Note: This is a common Arabic naming pattern that does not necessarily have anything to do with someone having a child of the given name. Abu/Umm often functions to create the meaning of having something or some quality, or being associated with it, so Abu [Arabic word meaning Victory/Beauty/Charisma/etc] often means someone who possesses these qualities.

    Meaning of Abrahah

Abrahah is a synonym of Ibrahim, meaning “father of a multitude“, of Ethiopian origin, or an Arabized form of an Ethiopian name. As far as I know this name is not used among Muslims.

[Note: This name is not recommended due to its strong association with the Ethiopian Abrahah who brought an army to attack Mecca in 6th century. It is included here because it is the name of a number of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.]
