Full Meaning of Zekei

Zekei is a Quranic name for boys that means “righteous”, “pure from sin”, “pious”, “blessed”. It is derived from the Z-K-A root which is very common in the Quran and is the root for words like Zakat (“purification”, the name for the obligatory charity on wealthy people).

[The angel] said to Mary: “I am just a message-bearer of your Lord, I have come to grant you a most pure boy.” (Quran 19:19)

O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan – indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing. (Quran 24:21)

When pronouncing Zekei, the stress is at the end, as in Za-keei, but it is acceptable to pronounce it quickly without the stress, as this is easier on the tongue, and even Arabs pronounce it without stress.
