I wouldn’t say it is necessary to contact the imaam to choose a name. We know our Islamic history. Keep things simple and name our children after the ambiyaa alaihimus salaam, or the sahaabah. Afterall, we want our children to emulate goodness don’t we? So we give good names in sha Allah. As for the critics wh9 take issue with US Muslims, ignore them or give them da3wah illallaah.
