Meaning of Liyana
Liyana is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means softness, tenderness, and delicacy. It is derived from the L-Y-N root which is used in a number of places in the Quran, such as:
42. Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not neglect My remembrance.
43. Go to Pharaoh. He has tyrannized.
44. But speak to him a soft and delicate word. Perhaps he will remember, or have some fear.” (Quran 20:42-44)

I don’t find “Liyana” in the Quranic Verse You’ve given the reference of (20:44), but the word I see there could be pronounced “Laee’yina”.
Liyana seems to be an English name to me (no matter how you spell it. Leanna, Lyana, Lianna, or other) .
How come is it a name for Muslim girls?

Any name that has a good meaning can be used by Muslims, whether it is English or not.
As for Liyana, its root is in the Quran, the word itself is not, which is why it is described as “indirect” in the article.

If the name has a good meaning, isn’t that sufficient in Islam? I don’t understand some people here criticizing the author when they can simply do their own research and educate others as well. But, why educate when we can easily criticize. If the “mawlawi” said the replacement changes the meaning then the solution to that is simply not making that change. Hope we Start to appreciate knowledge and hard work of others.
