Salaams, We really like the name Ishaaq but we realise in Uk this will most likely be pronounced by everyone as 'Ee-shark' and similarly Isaac is pronounced 'Izak'. To try to keep the pronounciation as close to the arabic version as possible we were thinking of spelling it Isaaq/Issaq/Issac. Is this permissable?
Answer
Yes, all those spellings are permissible. You can also spell it Isaac and have it be pronounced eye-zack, there is no issue with this, and it may help the child integrate easier into Western society. The meaning does not change regardless of how you spell or pronounce it (what matters is what you mean by it), thus you can choose a spelling and pronunciation that's most convenient for you and your child.
