Full Meaning of Abd al-Salam
Abd al-Salam is an indirect Quranic name for boys that means “servant of as-Salam“. as-Salam is one of the 99 names of Allah, glorified and exalted, that means “the source of peace and safety”. Thus Abd al-Salam means “servant of the Source of Peace and Safety”, i.e. servant of Allah. The name of Allah of as-Salam is mentioned in Quran 59:23:
He is Allah: there is no god but He: the King, the Holy, the Source of Peace, the Giver of security, the Overseer, the Most Mighty, the Overpowering, the All-Great. Exalted be He from whatever they associate with Him.
Even though Abd and Salam are both mentioned in the Quran, we consider Abd al-Salam an indirect Quranic name since the two words are not mentioned together as in Abd al-Salam.
