Full Meaning of Eyqra

Eyqra is a direct Quranic name for girls that means “read!” It was a command sent down by Allah to our Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, and according to some Islamic sources it is the first word of the Quran that was sent down through the angel Gabriel in the verses below:

1. Read! In the name of your Lord, who created:

2. created man from a clot [of blood].

3. Read! Your Lord is the most bountiful One

4. who taught by the pen,

5. taught man what he did not know. (Quran 96:1-5)
